Campus community members are invited to join UToledo’s military-connected students for a movie night Thursday, Nov. 14, at 5:30 p.m. in Rocket Hall Room 1530.

The film, “Fort Bliss,” stars Michelle Monaghan as a decorated Army medic who returns from Afghanistan and tries to fit back into civilian life and rebuild her relationship with her young son.

“I think this movie sheds light on an aspect of military life most people don’t know about,” Eric Buetikofer, UToledo director of military and veteran affairs, said. “I thought it was a good way to bring student veterans together for a fun event and help them feel connected on campus.”

Attendees may bring dinner or snacks to the screening of the 116-minute movie.

The free, public event is sponsored by PAVE, the Peer Advisors for Veteran Education, a program brought to campus this year by Buetikofer.

“PAVE is a peer support program for student veterans,” he said. “Student veterans share their firsthand experiences with incoming student veterans to help them connect with the campus and resources they need to succeed.”

Currently, 97 students are PAVE members. These are mostly first-time students, but also students who left college to join the military and are back to finish their education, according to Buetikofer.
