This summer, students at The University of Toledo will explore Toledo, Spain — one of the most culturally diverse Spanish cities with Christian, Muslim and Jewish history.

“The Spanish culture is so fascinating, and the environment is unlike anything I’ve ever seen,” said Lauren McKinch, a senior biology student from Sylvania, who was part of the program last year. “I learned so much more about the Spanish language than I ever could have learned sitting in a classroom.”
The course work is worth three credit hours and will take place from from Saturday, June 22, to Saturday, July 20. Because the cost is based on the euro, the program can be anywhere between $3,900 and $4,200, depending on the euro-to-dollar ratio at the time of payment.
The cost of the program covers almost everything except meals on weekends, shopping expenses and a trip on the third weekend to a destination of the students’ choice.
Financial assistance for the trip is available in a variety of ways through the University. The Center for International Studies and Programs offers study abroad scholarships and travel grants that can be found at utoledo.edu/cisp/scholarships.html.
“The trip was simply breathtaking,” said Daniel Hoffman, a senior biology student from Temperance, Mich., who went last year. “Toledo wore its history like a coat of arms, and its citizens were active participants in their ongoing cultural heritage.”
Students should have at least one year of Spanish course work or the equivalent prior to participating in the program.
Applications for the program are due Friday, Feb. 15, along with a $100 application fee and a letter of recommendation from an instructor familiar with the student’s Spanish skills.
