A new look for myUT, myut.utoledo.edu, that includes a news mashup and responsive design will roll out this week.

myUT updated screen shotLaunching Tuesday, Feb. 11, the myUT page has evolved to deliver time-sensitive news and features in a display similar to Facebook. The news will stream, in date order, stories, journal postings and YouTube videos aggregated into a single service.

Other features of the mashup will include Rocket athletic news, a searchable archive, social media integration, and an ongoing feed of back stories — all features suggested by web page visitors.

“Dividing content based on whether it’s a video, a web story or a journal is quickly becoming obsolete,” said Jon Strunk, senior director of university communications. “Our goal is to deliver engaging content, no matter its format. The new myUT page will help increase awareness of the great work that’s accomplished every day by our colleagues.”

The calendar has been repurposed to serve as a better source for dated announcements. Users can submit an event by completing a form that will populate the UT Calendar and be delivered as events on the myUT page. The calendar allows users to add the event to their Outlook calendar as well as share it via social media.

The updated myUT is built to be a responsive design, which stretches and shrinks the web page to fit different-sized screens and with accessibility standards in mind.

“We are working strategically to reinvent our websites to be mobile-friendly as our target audiences are rapidly adopting smart phones and tablets as their main web-browsing source,” said Bobbi Vaughan, director of the Center for Creative Instruction.

The myUT page is a strategic service of the Division of External Affairs teams: the Center for Creative Instruction and University Communications.
