Healthy New You week six: Rocket Wellness

For several weeks now, Rocket Wellness at The University of Toledo has been helping employees reach their overall health goals. This week will shine a spotlight on the office itself.

“We are focused on helping employees live healthier lives both at work and at home,” said Andrea Masters, assistant director of Rocket Wellness at The University of Toledo.

Rocket Wellness is dedicated to improving the lives of UT employees through education and motivation. It offers programs like Healthy New You throughout the year and presentations for departments by request.

Some of the topics the office helps educate employees on are health, fitness, exercise, weight management, nutrition, smoking cessation and more. Aside from programs and presentations, Rocket Wellness has certified dieticians, nutritionists and massage therapists that employees can make appointments with.

Because the office’s goal is to provide support for employees to live healthier lives, this week’s Healthy New You challenge is to share with a partner why you are getting healthier and why you value his or her support.

“It takes a community to help you embrace change in your life,” Masters said. “It’s good to have a support system, either for accountability or sharing resources. Rocket Wellness can be one of those resources.”

As in previous weeks of the program, there is an opportunity for bonus points by doing the walking programs held on both campuses. Rocket Walk will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in the Student Recreation Center and from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Morse Center.
