Golfer fires five-under 67 as records fall at Central District Invitational

It was a memorable Monday for Toledo at Michigan State’s Central District Invitational as two new entries were made into the women’s golf record book at the par 72, 6,325-yard Cypress Links Course at Lakewood Ranch Country Club in Florida.

Playing in near-perfect weather conditions that consisted of temperatures in the high 70s and sunny skies, the Rockets established a new 18-hole team record of one-under par 587, two strokes better than the previous mark from nearly seven years ago.

Sophomore Sathika Ruenreong also etched her name in UT’s record book with a five-under par 67 to tie for the best round ever and is tied for fifth at five-under par 139 (72-67).

Sophomore Manisa Isavas produced a solid outing for Toledo as well and is tied for 11th place at two-under par 142 (70-72). Junior Jennifer Elsholz fired a one-under par 71 in the second round and is tied for 36th place at five-over par 149 (78-71), while junior Stephanie St-Jean is tied for 58th place at nine-over par 153 (76-77). Rounding out the Rocket lineup is senior Kate Hoops tied for 66th place at 16-over par 160 (78-82). Sophomore Morgan Salm is competing as an individual and is alone in 60th place at 10-over par 154 (78-76).

“I’m extremely proud of the way our team played against one of the best fields we’ve ever competed against,” Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. “Sathika really had it going today and that type of performance shows the potential she has. Manisa was also very consistent throughout her two rounds and that’s what you need to do to successful.”



As a team, Toledo sits in seventh place at seven-over par 583 (296-287) in a field that includes three top 25 squads as well as 10 programs ranked in Golfstat’s Top 100.

No. 18 UCF leads the 13-team field at 15-under par 561 (280-281) and is followed by No. 15 Vanderbilt (276-287=563) and Michigan State (288-278=566).



The third and final round of the Central District Invitational is set for Tuesday with a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m.; live scoring will be available at BirdieFire.com.
