First-year and senior students have the unique opportunity to shape the future of The University of Toledo by participating in the National Survey of Student Engagement.

Administered every other year, the survey provides UToledo with important data to improve the student experience when it comes to academic advising, civic engagement, transferable skills, writing, global learning, inclusiveness — and new this year, career preparation, coping with COVID and online learning.

“We need to hear directly from our students about what they need from us to be successful,” said Dr. Phillip “Flapp” Cockrell, vice president for student affairs and vice provost. “This survey is an invaluable tool that collects their feedback about the student experience and provides us the data to take a closer look at how we do things here at UToledo and how we compare to our peers.”

Student input through the NSSE and advisory groups has been influential in creating a more robust orientation program, enhancing diversity programming and adding more student representation to committees, among other improvements, Flapp said.

“Students, your opinion matters,” he said. “Let your voice be heard.”

First-year and senior students eligible for the survey will receive their first invitation Tuesday, March 2, with their unique code to take the survey. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes and all responses will be kept confidential.

To encourage participation, the Division of Student Affairs is offering the chance to win a pair of Beats headphones and gift cards to Starbucks and Chick-fil-A.
