Toledo captured its second tournament title of the season Sunday with a four-stroke victory over California State-Northridge at Northern Arizona’s Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona.
The Rockets improved their team score by three strokes from yesterday by shooting a 13-over par 301.Senior Allison Schultz led UT’s individuals by finishing fourth at four-over par 148 (75-73).
Freshman Sathika Ruenreong was right behind Schultz tied for sixth place at six-over par 150 (74-76) for her fourth-straight top 10 showing.
Sophomore Becky Martin posted a season-best 12th-place showing at seven-over par 151 (75-76). Rounding out the Rocket starters were freshman Manisa Isavas (80-76=156) tied for 31st place and sophomore Jennifer Elsholz (82-78=160) tied for 48th place.
“We played extremely well both rounds and that’s what you need to do to win a tournament,” Toledo Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. “It was a great team effort, and we received tremendous contributions from everyone in our lineup. This is a great way to start our spring break trip.”
Also competing for Toledo as individuals were junior Kate Hoops (tied for 21st/72-81=153), sophomore Stephanie St-Jean (tied for 42nd/82-76=158), freshman Emily Dixon (tied for 50th/80-81=161), freshman Morgan Salm (tied for 58th/83-79=162) and sophomore Megan Carroll (103rd/92-82=174).
Toledo now will head to Rio Verde, Ariz., for next weekend’s Rio Verde Invitational Friday-Sunday, March 8-10.
