In celebration of National Poetry Month and National Library Week, renowned poet Thylias Moss will give a reading at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library Main Library downtown.

Moss, who has published eight collections of poetry, two plays and a children’s book, will participate in the Poetry Speaks @ Your Library event Tuesday, April 10, at 6:30 p.m. in the Huntington Meeting Room of the Main Library, 325 Michigan St.

The University of Toledo Department of English is co-sponsoring the free, public event with the library, and Joel Lipman, UT professor of English and Lucas County Poet Laureate and Library Poet-in-Residence, will introduce Moss and read some of his poetry selections. Local poet and spoken word artist Imani Lateef also will open the event with his stirring selections.

Moss’ most recent work experiments with Limited Fork Theory, the study of interacting systems, including visual, sonic, tactile and olfactory systems. Her last published work was in 2006 with a book of poetry titled Tokyo Butter.

Within the study of Limited Fork Theory, Moss has focused on the making of “poams,” a loose acronym that stands for “products of acts of making.” Her most recent work can be seen on her YouTube channel, Forkgirl’s Channel, or on her website, www.4orkology.com.

Moss, a dual professor at the University of Michigan working in the departments of English and Art & Design, is a Cleveland native and Oberlin graduate and a one-time student of 2007 Library of Congress Poet Laureate Consultant Charles Simic at the University of New Hampshire. She has been awarded distinguished honors, including the Witter Bynner Prize, and MacArthur and Guggenheim fellowships.

Attendees of the program will be able to sign up for the library’s Tuesday, April 24, Poetry Speaks open mic program.
