UToledo baseball player Kyle Jones and softball player Bri Robeson have been awarded the MAC Medal of Excellence, the league office announced Wednesday.

The MAC Medal of Excellence is presented annually to one male and one female student-athlete from the graduating class of each of the 12 Conference member institutions. Per the MAC, the individuals selected for the Medal of Excellence have distinguished themselves academically, athletically, and through demonstrated service and leadership.

Jones graduated this spring with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering while carrying a cumulative grade point average of 3.78. Robeson also graduated this spring with her bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration with a cumulative grade point average of 4.0.

Jones has transformed himself into one of the top pitchers in the Mid-American Conference this season, leading the league in strikeouts (93) and innings pitched (75.2) while ranking fifth in ERA (3.57). He has won three MAC Pitcher of the Week awards this year and is closing in on Toledo’s single-season strikeout record of 102 (Jeremy Griffiths, 1999). As the Rockets’ ace, Jones sports a 6-2 record and has seven games with at least eight strikeouts. He has pitched in 49 games in his career as a Rocket and has 208 strikeouts, good for seventh all-time at Toledo.

Robeson hit .286 across 24 contests for the Rockets this season and appeared in 121 games during her career. As a freshman in 2019, she played in 49 games and made 19 starts for Toledo’s MAC Championship squad, leading the team with eight stolen bases. Robeson hit .300 in the abbreviated 2020 season, starting 16 of Toledo’s 23 games and drawing a team-best 11 walks.
