For more than a thousand years, essential oils have been used for emotional healing and well-being; a recent increase in research on the practice has caught the attention of the scientific community.

Dana Cancer Center and the Center for Health and Successful Living will host a program, “What Essential Oils Can Do for You,” with nurse and doTERRA store owner Deanna Fielder Tuesday, June 16, at 6 p.m. at Renee’s Survivor Shop located in the cancer center on UT’s Health Science Campus.

Fielder, whose shop is located at the Olde Schoolhouse Commons in Lambertville, Mich., will discuss the benefits of using all-natural, essential oils and the effects different scents have on the body.

More than 45 scents are offered by doTERRA — a health-care and wellness company dedicated to bringing a new standard of therapeutic-grade essential oils to the world — many of which are offered at Renee’s Survivor Shop. The oils can be put in a diffuser or applied directly to the skin. doTERRA products are sold exclusively through wellness advocates working to introduce, educate and sell to local markets.

“At home, I put the lavender in my diffuser and add some lemon and it helps me sleep all night,” said Renee Schick, manager of Renee’s Survivor Shop. “All the scents are different, and they all help different parts of your health.”

Complimentary hand massages will be provided at the free, public event.
