Pharmacogenetics topic of June 12 guest lecture

Dr. Tim Wiltshire, associate professor and director of the Center for Pharmacogenetics and Individualized Therapy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will give the Sterling Visiting Professor Lecture as the keynote speaker for the 42nd Annual Pharmacology Research Colloquium Friday, June 12.

His presentation titled “Pharmacogenomics, Great Promise But Poor Implementation” will be held at 11 a.m. in Collier Building Room 1000B on UT’s Health Science Campus and is open to all UT students and faculty.

The lecture will focus on the potential of pharmacogenomics, the study of inherited genes’ influence on drug responses. Wiltshire will discuss his research using mouse models to identify genes responsible for the variation in response to different drugs.

Wiltshire’s lecture is part of the Pharmacology Research Colloquium, which is being hosted by UT this year.

A collaboration among the medical colleges of The University of Toledo, University of Michigan, Wayne State University and Michigan State University, the colloquium features 13 oral presentations and 40 poster presentations from postdoctoral students and graduate students.
