Kessler and Canada will compete in the 2015 Fédération Internationale de Basketball Amateur (FIBA) U-19 Women’s World Championship in Group C, where they will take on Mali, France and Belgium.

“I’m so proud of Nancy,” three-time Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year Tricia Cullop said. “This will be an incredible experience for her. It’s always exciting when you see a player enjoy the fruits of their labor. Nancy has been working extremely hard this off-season to improve.”

Kessler, a 6-foot-3-inch center, is a post player who averaged 1.8 points, 1.7 rebounds, 0.1 assists and 0.1 steals in 8.2 minutes in 24 games this past season for the Rockets. She contributed season highs in points (6), rebounds (7) and minutes played (21) at Akron (Feb. 14).

Last summer, Kessler was a member of Canada’s Under-18 Junior National Team that competed at the 2014 FIBA Americas Championships in Colorado Springs. She averaged 3.0 points and 2.4 caroms in 16.4 minutes per contest at the championships. The St. Catherines, Ontario, native shot 38.9 percent (7 of 18) from the floor and 50.0 (1 of 2) from the charity stripe.

“Nancy can play inside or out,” Cullop said. “She has a nice outside shot and has worked hard on her low block moves. She also runs the floor well and can help us push the tempo.”
