Golfer Qualifies for U.S. Amateur for Second Straight Year

The University of Toledo’s Nate Thomson has qualified for the U.S. Amateur for a second straight year after firing a one-under par 139 July 22 at the Watertown Country Club in Watertown, Wis.

Thomson will represent the Rocket men’s golf program Monday through Sunday, Aug. 12-18, at the storied Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C.

Nate Thomson qualified for the 2019 U.S. Amateur July 22.

A Greendale, Wis. native, Thomson carded a one-over par 71 in his first round before capping off his day with a two-under par 68

Thomson also competed in the 2018 U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach.

He transferred to the Rockets’ program from Marquette in January and has one year of eligibility remaining. He played his first two seasons of collegiate golf at Belmont, where he paced the Bruins with a 74.9 stroke average as a freshman and a 74.3 mark as a sophomore.
