Change to printer repairs process on Health Science Campus takes effect

Printer repairs on The University of Toledo’s Health Science Campus will be easier and more efficient due to a recently extended contract with IKON Office Solutions.

The vendor now handles all manufacturers’ printer repairs and maintenance for Health Science Campus equipment instead of just IKON networked, multi-function print/fax/copy devices.

According to Gary Burton, assistant manager of information technology customer service, this consolidation of service with IKON will be a step away from an “inventory of older, multi-vendor print devices that have complicated service and maintenance because they require a large inventory of spares and supplies.”

Burton noted that these difficulties have been compounded by “inconsistent vendor support and parts availability.”

The move to a single vendor will make possible an upgrade from the current environment of individual, non-networked multi-vendor devices to high-speed, multi-function networked printers/copiers/fax machines from IKON.

“IKON has proven to provide a consistent high level of quality service and reliability,” Burton said, adding that the IKON repair personnel will be stationed directly on campus.

“This will provide a high level of vendor support and fast access to replacement parts and supplies,” he said.

A similar concept for Main Campus is being considered, according to Burton.
