Informational sessions, professional development and networking opportunities are available to student service providers thanks to a new University of Toledo organization this year.

The Toledo Academic Advising Association is kicking off the semester at its first information session Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Rocket Hall Room 1530. UT Interim Provost John Barrett will be the inaugural speaker.

Membership to the organization and the event are free and open to all on-campus student service providers, including academic advisers, success coaches, faculty, Rocket Solutions Central direct service providers, and all other student services offices, such as the Registrar’s Office, Student Disability Services and the Learning Enhancement Center.

Following Barrett’s talk, there will be an unveiling of the new website, voting for the 2014-15 officers, and approval of the by-laws in the association constitution.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the information sessions and professional development opportunities planned for this year. Snacks will be provided, but everyone in attendance should plan to bring their own drinks.

Information sessions will be held the third Tuesday of every month from September through May from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Rocket Hall. The dates are: Oct. 21, Nov. 18, Dec. 16, Jan. 20, Feb. 17, March 17, April 21 and May 19.
