Update: The event was rescheduled for Sept. 30.

UToledo faculty and staff are invited to attend a welcome mixer from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Koester Alumni Pavilion in honor of women and gender minority faculty and staff hired from 2020 through 2021.

“This event will be a wonderful opportunity to welcome talented faculty and staff to the University Community,” said Dr. Charlene Gilbert, interim vice president for diversity and inclusion, and dean of the College of Arts and Letters. “One small way we build an inclusive culture is by taking time to welcome our colleagues to campus. During these challenging times, community is absolutely essential to personal well-being and professional success.”

According to Dr. Angela Fitzpatrick, director of the Eberly Center for Women, it is especially important to establish a support system for women and gender minorities in higher education.

“Numerous studies have demonstrated the gendered impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly for women who are caretakers,” she said. “While the event is open to employees of all gender identities and expressions, we want to make sure that women and folks who identify as gender non-conforming know where to turn for support on campus.”

The outdoor event is jointly hosted by the Eberly Center for Women, University Women’s Commission, and Women’s Mentoring Network.
