Toledo was named the National Team of the Week by the U.S. Sports Academy following the 16-12 victory over No. 18 Arkansas Sept. 12.

No. 19 Oklahoma’s double overtime 31-24 victory over No. 23 Tennessee was selected as the second-best game of the week, while No. 5 Michigan State’s 31-28 win over No. 7 Oregon was named third-best game of the week.

An eminent national panel of former and legendary coaches and administrators, chaired by Jack Lengyel, the former athletic director at the U.S. Naval Academy, selects the weekly winner of the College Football Game of the Year Award.

Each weekly winner is considered for the award honoring the best College Football Game of the Year at the end of the season. Past winners of these memorable games have included some stunning upsets, conference championship games, and Bowl Championship Series National Championship games.

Toledo earlier was named the AutoNation National Team of the Week by the Football Writers Association of America following the 16-12 victory over No. 18 Arkansas Sept. 12. It is the first time the Rockets have earned this honor since the award began in 2002.

As part of AutoNation’s history of charitable involvement, AutoNation will donate $1,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in The University of Toledo’s name.

A pep rally will be held Thursday, Sept. 17, at noon on Centennial Mall to celebrate UT’s big win and to psych up for the next game.

Toledo, which picked up 29 points in the latest Associated Press poll, will host Iowa State of the Big 12 at the Glass Bowl Saturday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m.
