There will be bloodThe Disability Studies Program will screen the film “There Will Be Blood” Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 7:20 p.m. in Memorial Field House Room 2100.

Oscar-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano star in this riveting 2007 film about a gold miner-turned-oilman on a ruthless quest for wealth during Southern California’s oil boom of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

“‘There Will Be Blood’ prominently features a character deafened in an oilfield explosion in the early years of the 20th century,” said Dr. Jim Ferris, Ability Center of Greater Toledo Endowed Chair of Disability Studies. “The film, a gripping exploration of power and privilege, shows how the character’s deafness affects not only him but the people around him.”

Ferris also is the director of the UT Disability Studies Program and professor of communication.
