A popular gathering spot in the Student Union has been named for a longtime UT employee who served students in the building.

Trimble

The South Lounge will be known as the Tom Trimble Student Lounge in recognition of his more than 30 years of service to the University.

“The University and Division of Student Affairs is proud to honor Tom and his dedicated service to the students over the years,” Dean of Students Michele Martinez said.

Trimble, who retired in July, had a reputation for student involvement among various groups on campus, and it was a student drive to recognize him with a room in the Student Union.

“This was an initiative started by students who had worked with Tom in the Student Union over the years. It’s great to see the administration being receptive and willing not only to listen, but also to honor student input,” Student Government President Matt Rubin said. “It is very exciting the lounge will have a new name with Tom’s legacy attached to it.”

The UT Board of Trustees approved the renaming at its Sept. 19 meeting.

Martinez said she is looking forward to planning an official dedication event with Trimble, his family, students and the University community.
