Have an old computer, printer or scanner you need to get rid of? How about a stereo and speakers?

The University of Toledo’s Society for Environmental Education, in partnership with Recycle I.T. USA, will sponsor a recycling program to help people dispose of unwanted electronic items that may contain hazardous materials.

The drive will be held Monday through Friday, Oct. 15-19, at the UT Federal Credit Union’s main office, 5248 Hill Ave.

In addition, people can dispose of electronics in a safe, responsible and efficient manner from 3 to 6 p.m. on Main and Health Science campuses:

• Monday, Oct. 15 — Drive up to the Student Union bus loop, and

• Tuesday, Oct. 16 — Drive up to Mulford Library.

According to Recycle I.T. USA, when disposed of in a traditional landfill, harmful materials that are used in many electronics, such as lead and mercury, work into the environment and can be potential health risks to the surrounding area and its inhabitants.
Specific recycling programs helps to ensure that all of the waste material is properly handled.

The program will not accept television sets during the week.

Further information and a list of items that can be recycled can be found here.
