The University of Toledo’s “Hoops Hysteria” basketball preview at Savage Arena will take place Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m.

hoops hysteriaRocket basketball fans can get their first look at the 2013-14 men’s and women’s basketball teams, get player autographs, as well as participate in contests and other fun activities.

Highlighting the free event will be a slam-dunk contest by the men’s team, a three-point shooting contest featuring players from both teams as well as UT students, and drawings for prizes, including an iPad mini and team warm-ups.

UT students attending the event also will receive a free T-shirt.

Throughout the event, fans will have a chance to meet the players and coaches. Free team posters will be available, as well as opportunities for autographs. Fans can purchase snacks from the concession stands as they watch the action and listen to live music.

The UT men’s team is looking to do big things in the 2013-14 campaign and has been picked to win the Mid-American Conference by several national publications. After tying for first place in the West Division last season, the Rockets return four starters to the hardwood this season, including all-conference guards Rian Pearson and Julius Brown, as well as MAC All-Freshman Team member Nathan Boothe.

The Rocket women’s team is coming off a stellar 29-4 record in 2012-13, the best single-season mark in school annals. The Rockets also captured their second MAC regular-season crown in the last three seasons with a 15-1 league ledger. Toledo also made its fourth consecutive appearance and ninth overall in the WNIT in 2013. Returning for the Rockets are two-time reigning MAC Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-MAC honoree senior Andola Dortch and third-team All-MAC selection junior Inma Zanoguera.

Free parking will be available in areas 3, 4 and 5, which are adjacent to Savage Arena.
