UT quarterback receives national recognition for performance against Akron; fans can vote for him on Facebook

Toledo senior quarterback Logan Woodside was honored by two national awards for his performance in the Rockets’ 48-21 win over Akron Saturday.

Woodside was named to the Davey O’Brien Award “Great 8,” which honors the eight best quarterback performances in the nation for the week. He also was one of eight quarterbacks to be named a Star of the Week by the Manning Award.

Senior quarterback Logan Woodside threw for 304 yards and five touchdowns Oct. 21 to lead the Rockets to victory over Akron, 48-21.

In addition, Woodside also was named Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week. It is the third time this season he has been named player of the week by the MAC and eighth time in his career.

Woodside threw for 304 yards and five touchdowns vs. the Zips. Woodside completed 17 of 24 passes, including eight of at least 20 yards. He completed passes to 10 different receivers, including three different players who caught TD passes in the first quarter. Woodside recorded the 14th 300-yard passing game of his career. It is the fourth time in his career he has had at least five touchdown passes in a game. Woodside also rushed for a season-high 39 yards.

The Manning Award Star of the Week will be determined by a vote. College football fans can go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. When voting closes at noon Thursday, Oct. 26, the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.
