The University of Toledo is looking for a few good signs.
In order to encourage UT students to make signs for its nationally televised football game vs. Ball State Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 8 p.m. on ESPN2, the Rockets will award a bunch of great prizes to them for the most creative and attractive signs, courtesy of the President’s Office.
The first-place winner will receive a trip for two on the team charter flight to the University of Florida next season. Four runner-up prizes will be autographed gray team jerseys. The first 100 UT students to arrive at the game with signs will receive a $5 gift card to the Rocket Shop.
Signs will be judged on the following criteria: design and creativity; message pertaining to Rocket football; size of sign; and enthusiasm of the student with the sign. The top five signs will be brought down to the field in the third quarter. Applause from the crowd will determine the winner.
In addition to the sign contest, here are some other promotions for UT students at the Ball State game:
• Free T-shirts — the first 1,000 UT students through the gates will receive a free blue Rockets T-shirt, courtesy of the President’s Office.
• Free winter hats — between the first and second quarters, UT cheerleaders will toss out approximately 75 Toledo football winter helmet hats into the student section.
• Great cash giveaway — UT students can compete for cash by singing the Dave White jingle. Auditions will be recorded in the first quarter and played during the third quarter. First prize is a $300 American Express gift card, second prize is $150, and third prize is $25.
• Battle of the residence halls — The UT residence hall that can bring the greatest percentage of its students to the game will win free sandwiches from Potbelly Subs.
The Ball State game is shaping up as critical in Toledo’s quest to win a Mid-American Conference Championship. The Rockets, winners of eight straight games, are 8-1 and tied with Northern Illinois for first place in the MAC West Division with a 5-0 MAC record. Ball State (6-3, 3-2 MAC) must knock off the Rockets to stay in contention for a title.
Tickets — $24 and $12 for youth 12 and younger — can be purchased at the UT Athletic Ticket Office, utrockets.com or by calling 419.530.GOLD (4653). UT students are admitted free with valid ID; UT employees can purchase tickets at half price.
