The University of Toledo Medical Center will offer free screens for skin cancer, which is the most common of all cancers.

The screenings will be conducted by Dr. P.K. Chaudhuri, professor and surgical director of UTMC Cancer Center, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 3, on the second floor of the hospital.

The majority of skin cancers are caused by unprotected exposure to excessive ultraviolet radiation, primarily from the sun. The American Cancer Society estimates that melanoma will account for more than 75,000 cases of skin cancer in 2012, and more than 2 million cases of basal and squamous cell skin cancer will be detected.

No appointments are necessary.
