The media room was renovated thanks to a $23,000 grant from Women & Philanthropy at The University of Toledo. Renovations include colorful graphic images depicting the history of Rocket athletics on the walls and exterior of the media room, as well as new furniture, carpeting and lighting. The room is used to host media and news conferences for UT athletic and special events.

“We are very grateful to Women & Philanthropy for their grant that has enabled us to renovate the media room in Savage Arena,” said UT Vice President and Athletic Director Mike O’Brien. “We strive to create a first-class environment for all of the events we host in Savage, whether it is a basketball game, a graduation ceremony or a meeting. This grant has definitely made a big impact. It is amazing to see the difference in our media room now.”

“We are proud of our involvement in the renovation of the media room at Savage Arena and to be the naming sponsor,” said Marianne Ballas, chair of Women & Philanthropy at The University of Toledo.

Nancy Lapp, chair of the Women & Philanthropy grants committee, added that the renovation of the media room will serve to enhance the image of the University.

“We are pleased to assist the UT Athletic Department in its goal to provide the finest media room in the Mid-American Conference,” Lapp said. “This is a very worthy objective and an important part of the branding effort of the University.”

Women & Philanthropy at The University of Toledo was chartered in 2006 and made its first award in 2008. Through this giving circle, members of diverse backgrounds and interests work collaboratively and pool their charitable gift dollars to make positive, meaningful and immediate impacts at the University.

In six years, the group has gifted $241,931 in 10 grants to the University, according to Chris Spengler, director of advancement relations in Institutional Advancement, member and administrative contact for Women & Philanthropy.
