Nominations are being sought from the University for the dean of the College of Graduate Studies.
Dr. Patricia Komuniecki, who has served as vice provost for graduate affairs and dean of the College of Graduate of Studies since 2009, will retire June 30.
“Patsy’s exemplary leadership has served the University and our graduate students well,” Interim Provost John Barrett said. “We thank her for working to enhance the quality of services we provide to our graduate students.”
Prior to being named dean, Komuniecki was a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and served as chair for 10 years. She joined the UT faculty in 1985 and was a postdoctoral fellow in pharmacology at the former Medical College of Ohio in 1980.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed all the varied opportunities I have had during my 36 years at UT and hope that my contributions as a faculty administrator since 1990 helped undergraduate and graduate students,” she said. “I will miss working with the College of Graduate Studies team; they are a special group of dedicated professionals, and it has been my pleasure to work with them over the past seven years to support our graduate students and faculty.”
Nominations of internal candidates are requested by Friday, March 4.
“We are looking for someone to lead our graduate and professional programs to become nationally distinguished and highly ranked,” Dr. William Messer, vice president for research and chair of the search committee, said. “The next dean will be charged with continuing and growing UT’s emphasis on graduate student research.”
The University has 128 master’s degree programs and 40 doctoral programs in 12 colleges. In addition to those research degrees, the University offers professional doctorates and master’s degrees, as well as a variety of certificates in health care, business and personal enrichment areas.
Internal candidates should have a notable record as a scholar and teacher, and possess a PhD or terminal degree to be eligible to be a full member of the graduate faculty in a field represented in the College of Graduate Studies.
Candidates also should have:
• Leadership skills that will take graduate education and research to the next level at the University;
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching, research and advising;
• Administrative and business acumen to lead the strategic and financial implications of the college;
• Communication skills to engage with a wide range of constituents within and outside the University;
• Commitment to diversity and a desire to implement new strategies to pursue equity; and
• Knowledge of graduate student curriculum and its development.
