The Office of Undergraduate Research will conduct two proposal-writing workshops to provide assistance for developing an effective research or creative activity proposal.

The workshops will take place Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Memorial Field House Room 2030 and Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial Field House Room 2910.

Those who cannot attend the workshop should contact the Office of Undergraduate Research, which will arrange another session.

The undergraduate research proposal deadline is Friday, Feb. 27, for the following summer programs:

• Undergraduate Summer Research and Creative Activity Program, which supports research involvement by undergraduate students in faculty members’ study activities. This competitive program is open to second- and third-year UT students in all areas of research and/or creative activity. It will provide up to $3,000 to support summer projects.

• First-Year Summer Research Experience, which supports research involvement by UT first-year undergraduate students in faculty members’ investigative activities in the summer of their first year in college. This competitive program is open to all UT first-year undergraduates in all areas of research and/or creative activity.

Requirements for both programs include a commitment to spend 300 hours during the summer on projects; attendance at a weekly, one-hour research seminar addressing issues such as safety in conducting research, the ethical conduct of research, methods of presenting research, among other topics; and involvement in a daylong, end of the summer, research symposium to present research.
