The UToledo Department of English Language and Literature is hosting novelist and poet Phillip B. Williams for a reading and book signing.

Williams will be discussing his debut novel, “Ours,” as well as his poetry collection, “Mutiny,” awarded the 2022 American Book Award, and “Thief in the Interior,” which won the 2017 Kate Tufts Discovery Award and a 2017 Lambda Literary Award. His work has appeared in Boston Review, Callaloo, Kenyon Review, The New Republic, The New Yorker and more.

The event is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, in the McQuade Law Auditorium located in the Law Center. It will begin with an excerpt reading and Q&A followed by book signing.

Dr. Dustin Pearson, an assistant professor in the Department of English Language and Literature, invited Williams to UToledo as a part of his new visiting writer series that he started.

“Phillip’s visit to the university marks the third visiting writer in a new visiting writer series I started when I was hired as an assistant professor at the University of Toledo,” Pearson said. “Each writer that has visited has met with students to talk about the industry and creative writing life and given a reading and book signing. It’s my hope that the series will continue its strong start and become a tradition that many generations will remember and look forward to.”
