Jason Hamilton and Mike Malone will present “Playing Nightly,” a documentary on area professional musicians, Tuesday, March 5, at the Maumee Indoor Theater, 601 Conant St.

The UT theatre alumni produced the film that explores the stories and songs of professional musicians in the Glass City: Jeff Stewart, Johnny Rodriguez, John Barile, Bobby May and Kyle White.

Filmed in Toledo in nearly 20 locations, the film follows people who are living their dreams by playing music.

“At the end of the day, I am interested in why people do what they do and where they are coming from,” Hamilton said. “What we tried to do with the film is try to get away from the standard documentary format. There is no narrator or disembodied interviewer; the musicians tell the story.”

The 73-minute film will be shown at 7:15 and 8:45 p.m.

Behind the camera for “Playing Nightly” are Hamilton and Malone.

This is Hamilton’s second feature as a director/producer. He directed “The Toledo Conspiracy,” which was shot in the Glass City. Hamilton has worked in production at Paramount, Fox and Saturday Night Live Studios.

Malone has more than 25 years experience working with several major networks as well as a client base ranging from Harpo Productions to Ford. He shares his keen eye for composition and a love of music as a member of the Toledo band Locoweed.

“I think art at any level is basically documenting expression,” Hamilton said. “There are a lot of talented local artists, and I think the more we recognize this the stronger the community will be.”

The screenings are free; a $5 donation is suggested.
