Toledo captures share of eighth MAC regular-season title with 77-66 win over EMU

Toledo wrapped up a share of its eighth Mid-American Conference regular-season title in program history Saturday afternoon with a 77-66 triumph over Eastern Michigan before 5,911 fans in Savage Arena.

UT’s 26 wins this season are tied for the fourth most in Mid-American Conference history. In addition, the Rockets finished their home campaign at 15-0 for the fourth time ever and first since the 1966-67 season.

Toledo will return to action Friday, March 14, when it faces an opponent to be determined in the MAC semifinals in Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena.

Junior guard Justin Drummond paced the Rockets with 22 points, a career-high seven assists to go along with five rebounds.

Senior guard Rian Pearson added a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds to go along with a team-high four steals.

Also scoring in double figures were junior guard Julius Brown (13 points, 7 assists) and freshman guard Jonathan Williams (12 points, 4 of 6 three-point shots).

Toledo posted its best three-point shooting mark of its conference campaign, knocking down 12 of 25 long-distance attempts for a 48.0 shooting mark. UT shot 42.9 percent from the field, including a 50.0 clip in the second stanza.
