Each free, public event takes place in the Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall.

“Christopher Guzman is a highly sought-after performer with an impressive resume spanning domestic and international stages,” said Dr. Nicholas Bai, a visiting associate professor in UToledo’s Department of Music. “We’re thrilled to welcome him for the Dorothy MacKenzie Price Piano Series, which allows us to bring celebrated pianists to campus each fall and spring semester.”

Guzman is known for his stylistic versatility. He has toured extensively throughout the United States, Asia and Europe, including major venues like New York’s Carnegie Hall, and earned top prizes at music competitions like the Walter M. Naumburg Competition in the United States, the Seoul International Music Competition in South Korea and the Concours International de Piano d’Orléans in France.

Guzman is a professor of piano at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University.

The Dorothy MacKenzie Price Piano Series is named in honor of a late supporter of music programs and students at UToledo. The Department of Music expanded the series last year with the introduction of the spring Dorothy MacKenzie Price Piano Series Competition, which provides young musicians valuable performance opportunities and financial assistance to help further their musical education.

Eight finalists between the ages of 12 and 17 are scheduled to perform in front of an esteemed panel of pianists including Guzman on Saturday, March 14, with the top performer earning a scholarship from the Department of Music, among other opportunities.

Visitor parking for the competition and master class requires payment through the ParkMobile app, a parking meter or a daily permit via ParkUToledo. Visitor parking for the recital is free in Lot 12, excluding disability, metered and reserved spaces.
