What do you get when you combine UT, a newspaper, a feminist bookstore, a local YWCA, a community college and a Catholic parish?

WOWWOW! Better explained as Women of the World, this collaborative will host its second Symposium Saturday, March 22, on UT’s Scott Park Campus. Hosted during Women’s History Month, this event seeks to provide free educational and networking opportunities for women throughout northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.

A free lunch will be provided to the first 100 registrants to the WOW Symposium. The registration deadline is Saturday, March 15.

The symposium will offer entertainment, a market place of vendors, and speakers on a variety of issues relevant to women.

“We are so thrilled to be hosting the second annual WOW Symposium at the Scott Park Campus. Last year was such a wonderful collaborative event for all involved, and we are looking forward to an even better event this year,” said Emily Hardcastle, community outreach manager with the Office of Equity, Diversity and Community Engagement.

There will be opportunities for guests to attend breakout sessions throughout the day. Topics range from adoption to dressing professionally to African dance lessons. Another session will feature the women of the world panel, discussing the cultural and societal expectations of girls and women from the perspective of four women from very different backgrounds.

The marketplace will be open all day for participants to browse and shop. Vendors will be all women-owned or women-focused organizations. Vendor registrations are due by Friday, March 14.

“WOW is a wonderful opportunity for women to learn things, meet other women and share experiences. I am so grateful for the opportunity to sell my children’s book in the marketplace,” said Nancy Meredith, author of You’re the Brightest Star and UT alumna. “My book has a universal message about understanding the power of the choices you make.”

Organizing partners and sponsors of the event include the American Association of University Women, the YWCA of Northwest Ohio, Nami of Greater Toledo, the Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women, Adopt America, The Blade, El Centro de la Mujer, People Called Women Feminist Bookstore, the UT Department of Women’s and Gender Studies, Owens Community College, St. Martin de Porres, and Nirvana Now!
