The Disability Studies Program will present a documentary that helps give insight into Deaf culture.
The film, “See What I’m Saying: The Deaf Entertainers Documentary,” will be shown Tuesday, March 27, at 7 p.m. in Memorial Field House Room 2100.
“This film can show us how vital and active Deaf culture really is,” said Dr. Jim Ferris, Ability Center of Greater Toledo Endowed Chair of Disability Studies, associate professor of communication and director of the UT Disability Studies Program. “The dominant culture thinks of Deaf culture as quiet and mopey. This documentary shows what Deaf culture is really like — smart, vibrant and active.”
The documentary follows four well-known deaf entertainers as they work to win over mainstream audiences. The film features a comedian, drummer, actor and singer.
The free, public screening is co-sponsored by the American Sign Language Program.
