Pacemaker Awards to honor business leader, outstanding UT business students

The University of Toledo College of Business Administration and the Business Engagement and Leadership Council will present their 47th Annual Pacemaker Awards Friday, April 3, at 6:15 p.m. at the Inverness Club.

Each year the prestigious Pacemaker Award recognizes an individual for outstanding achievement in business as well as contributions to the community and the University.

The 2009 recipient of the Business Pacemaker Award is Michael R. Miller, chairman and CEO of Waterford Bank. Miller, who obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the UT College of Business Administration, is one of eight directors and founders of the bank, which opened in 2007 and serves owners and managers of small- to medium-size companies, and entrepreneurs and professionals.

His extensive community activities include serving as co-chair of the 2009 NCAA Golf Championship, which will be hosted by UT at Inverness Club in May; chairman and president of the Board of the Toledo Mud Hen Baseball Club Inc.; and chairman of the Board of Toledo Arena Sports Inc., which is the owner of the Toledo Walleye (member of the East Coast Hockey League) and the Toledo Bullfrogs (Arena Football II).

The Pacemaker Awards also are presented to UT College of Business Administration graduate and undergraduate students for their outstanding academic achievement as well as University and community service.

The 2009 student Pacemakers are:

Doctoral student — Sufian Qrunfleh;

MBA student — Amanda Russell;

MSA — Desirae Avery; and

Undergraduates — Chris Konstandas and Andrew Wettle, accounting; Stephanie Kersting and Steven Plummer, finance; John Baker and Michael Leonowich, information operations and technology management; Christina Harris and Dave Rigotti, management; David Liebrecht and Laura Mecklenborg, marketing and international business; and Siccorah Whitlow, Dean’s Office.
