Ricky Stokes of the Mid-American Conference presented Chris Selfridge the MAC Freshman of the Year award.

Chris Selfridge earned Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year honors Sunday and ended up with a third-place finish at the MAC Championship in Sugar Grove, Ill., after the final round was canceled before its conclusion.

His performance also earned him a spot on the all-tournament team as well as second-team All-MAC laurels.

Selfridge, who concluded his freshman campaign with three-straight top 10 finishes, was at one-under par 215 (73-71-71) following 54 holes. Kent State’s Corey Conners captured medalist honors at seven-under 209 (70-67-72) with the Golden Flashes’ Kevin Miller in second place at five-under 211 (70-69-72).

“Chris is extremely deserving of Freshman of the Year,” Toledo Head Coach Jamie Mauntler said. “He’s worked very hard this season on all facets of his game and really put everything together in the last month. He certainly has a bright future with the skill set he possesses.”

Rain and lightning began around noon Sunday; shortly after play restarted, Toledo was at even-par for its round and two strokes out of second place with approximately six holes remaining. However, inclement weather halted play again, and it was determined that there wouldn’t be enough daylight to conclude the round.

“I was very disappointed for our guys that the decision was made to not finish out our round,” Mauntler said. “We had a lot of momentum and had a chance to finish in second place. I was proud of how we bounced back from Saturday’s sub-par showing and that we were ready to finish our season on a high note.”

The Rockets shot a 39-over 903 (299-301-303) as a team to rank sixth in the standings with No. 18 Kent State posting a nine-under 855 for its fourth straight conference title. UT was just eight strokes behind second-place Eastern Michigan. There were 11 strokes that separated second- through ninth-place in the standings.

Rounding out Toledo’s lineup were senior Dugan Murphy (tied for 21st place, 73-77-77=227), redshirt freshman Mike Lancaster (tied for 33rd place, 76-78-79=233), freshman Jamie Richardson (tied for 33rd place, 77-80-76=233) and freshman Pat Cermak (tied for 38th place, 78-75-83=236).
