Pirog
Dr. Ron Pirog, director of The University of Toledo’s Study Abroad Program, has been selected as a Fulbright scholar for the U.S.-Japan International Education Administrators Program.
Pirog is one of approximately 1,100 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program this academic year. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership in their fields.
His duties will include visits to various cities and academic institutions in Japan. He will join others in meeting with leaders from government offices and academic institutions to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and Japan. For three weeks in June, Pirog will travel between the cities of Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima.
“I am honored to have been chosen for this program, and I am very much looking forward to traveling to Japan and meeting and exchanging ideas with government officials and education administrators as part of this prestigious program,” Pirog said. “Besides, in all my travels as director of the Study Abroad Program, this will be my first visit to Japan.”
The Fulbright Program, America’s flagship international educational exchange program, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Since its establishment in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late Sen. J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the Fulbright Program has provided approximately 286,500 people with the opportunity to observe each others’ political, economic, educational and cultural institutions, to exchange ideas, and to embark on joint ventures of importance to the general welfare of the world’s inhabitants. The program operates in more than 150 countries worldwide.
