The event started Saturday, June 6, and will run through Sunday, July 5, in Canada.

Colombia’s national squad is making its second appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 and is competing in Group F (four groups), along with Mexico (June 9 in Moncton), France (Saturday, June 13, in Moncton), and England (Wednesday, June 17, in Montreal).

In the June 9 opening match, Colombia earned a 1-1 draw against Mexico in Moncton Stadium. A team captain, Gaitàn played all 90 minutes and helped her national team earn an important point in their quest to advance to the knockout stage of the event, while Echeverri did not see match action.

A well-credentialed player on the international level, Gaitàn also represented her home country as a team captain at the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2011 FIFA World Cup.

One of the most decorated players in school history, Gaitàn was a two-time second-team National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Great Lakes Region and a two-time All-Mid-American Conference honoree. She also earned a spot on the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Third Team, becoming the first member of the program to earn Academic All-America accolades.

This past fall for the Rockets, Echeverri scored four goals and totaled eight points on 36 shots. The Medellin, Colombia, native started nine of 13 contests in the midfield.

Echeverri missed seven matches during the year while playing for her home country at the 2014 Copa America Femenina Tournament in Ecuador. She started every match in the tourney and helped Colombia qualify for the 2015 Pan American Games and the Rio 2016 Olympics.
