Dr. Julie Murphy will assume the role of Director of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Office of Competitive Fellowships beginning July 1. She will lead efforts to expand research and creative activity opportunities to undergraduate students and support students and faculty in applying for competitive fellowships like Fulbrights.

Murphy

Murphy is an associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, having joined The University of Toledo in 2012. A UToledo alumna, she received her bachelor of science in pharmacy and doctor of pharmacy from the University.

“I look forward to working with the Advisory Committee on Undergraduate Research and the faculty members within the various disciplines across the University to ensure that our students learn the research methodologies of their given discipline,” Murphy said.

“One of my goals is to make certain that the Office of Undergraduate Research and Office of Competitive Fellowships showcase the research and creative activity efforts of our undergraduate students in a way that reflects the demographics of our campus. We will then go on to assist these promising scholars as they apply for competitive fellowships and scholarships.”

Dr. Heidi Appel, dean of the Jesup Scott Honors College, said Murphy’s promotion to the position will continue the ongoing success of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Office of Competitive Fellowships.

“We’re very excited to bring Dr. Murphy on board as the new director,” Appel said. “Her creativity, energy and experience will continue the momentum of both offices to provide high-impact experiences for undergraduates and support to faculty and students in their pursuit of competitive fellowships.”

Appel thanked Dr. Robert Schultz, interim associate dean in the Honors College and professor of gifted education, for serving expertly in an interim role this past year.
