New Rocky logo takes off

UT’s beloved mascot, Rocky, received a popular makeover last fall. And now there’s a hip, new University logo featuring the school’s biggest fan.

webrocky1-copyThe Rocky logo was created in collaboration with the Collegiate Licensing Co. (CLC) to provide a secondary mark that would appeal to consumers.

“So far response to the new logo has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Matt Lockwood, UT’s licensing director. “In fact, the CLC believes the mark is strong enough to be picked up and sold on hats in markets hundreds of miles away.”

The logo features a flying Rocky with flames trailing behind, giving the impression of action.

“We believe this is a very powerful logo, and if you’ll notice, it also forms a T for Toledo,” said Ryan Prowell, CLC university services representative for UT. “Institutions can dramatically improve demand for their brand by introducing new logos, and I’m confident this logo will have that effect.”

The logo has been made available for use by all companies licensed to produce UT merchandise.

The first products featuring the Rocky logo are custom ties created by Vineyard Vines, a clothing company based on Martha’s Vineyard. The pink or blue ties can be found in the bookstores on Main and Health Science campuses and in the UTMC gift shop.
