The former president and CEO of St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center and Mercy Health Partners has been appointed interim director of business development at The University of Toledo Medical Center.

Darryl Lippman, who also has served as director of the Health-Care Administration academic program at The University of Toledo for the last 10 years, began his new responsibilities July 5.

“Darryl has substantial experience in developing successful partnerships with physicians, hospitals and other health-related organizations,” said Dr. Scott Scarborough, senior vice president and UTMC executive director. “He will begin the critical work of pursuing new and important clinical relationships that further our mission and identity us as a patient-centered, university-quality medical center.”

Lippman served as president and chief executive officer of Mercy Health Partners from 1995 to1999, when he was instrumental in establishing the five-hospital organization. He held the same title with St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center from 1989 to 1995.

He also has held administrative positions with Allegheny General Hospital, Lancaster General Hospital, the Allentown Hospital and HealthEast, all in Pennsylvania.

Since 2000, Lippman has been the director of the UT Health-Care Administration academic program and has been instrumental in expanding the program and increasing student enrollment.

Lippman earned a master of hospital administration degree from Duke University and holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southwestern Louisiana.
