Former Rocket Piyathida Chaiyapan is scheduled to participate in the Monday, Aug. 6, qualifier at the 2012 LPGA Jamie Farr Toledo Classic sponsored by Kroger, Owens Corning and O-I.

The qualifier will take place at the Sylvania Country Club with the tournament being held Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 9-12, at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania.

“This is the eighth time in the last nine years that a Rocket golfer has received this great opportunity,” Toledo Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. “Having a member of our program participate in this qualifier is one of the highlights of the year for us and a very memorable experience for our student-athletes. We’re very thankful for the tremendous support tournament director Judd Silverman has provided to our program.”

Chaiyapan earned the team’s Most Valuable Player honors in 2011-12 after topping the Rockets with a 76.7 stroke average for the third-lowest UT season scoring average. A second-team all-conference honoree, Chaiyapan tied for first place at the Mid-American Conference Championship before falling in a playoff.

Breanne Hall was the first UT golfer to participate in the qualifier in 2004 followed by Natalie Storck (2005), Tammy Clelland (2006), Kim Kester (2006, 2007), Boram Lee (2007) and Erica Rivard (2008, 2009, 2010). Clelland qualified for the event in 2006 after carding a two-under par 70 but missed the 36-hole cut.
