The Student Recreation Center will be closed from Saturday, Aug. 9, through Thursday, Aug. 21, for annual maintenance and cleaning.
Nancy Burhans, associate director of facilities at the Student Recreation Center, said equipment is being replaced or repaired as needed; this will include the weight machine pads, pool table felt, broken lockers, broken pool tiles, cardio and weight equipment.
The pools will be drained and acid washed. Floors will be stripped and waxed as needed, and the walls will be repainted if necessary. A new floor also will be installed in the climb cave.
Preventative maintenance and repairs will be done on the cardio equipment, diving boards and pool chemical delivery systems.
Gym court lights also will be replaced.
Additionally, the gym curtains, fans, windows, carpets, aerobics rooms and exercise equipment will be cleaned.
“Basically, if we can clean it, we clean it,” Burhans said.
Students and employees will be able to use the facility once the repairs are finished.
