Military health-care symposium to take place Aug. 18

“Caring for Our Heroes: Bridging the Gap Between Military and Civilian Health Care” will be the topic of a symposium Monday, Aug. 18.

military symposium webThe event, which offers continuing medical education credit, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel on UT’s Health Science Campus.

The symposium will focus on helping veterans and military personnel cope with post-traumatic stress disorder. Physicians will discuss the latest research on depression and suicide, as well as treatment for substance abuse.

Family doctors, internists, psychiatrists, counselors and social workers who care for veterans and military personnel are encouraged to attend.

The cost of the program is $70 for health-care professionals, $60 for UT faculty and staff members, and $25 for UT residents and students.

Registration will be available at the door at 7:30 a.m. the day of the symposium, which will be presented by the U.S. Air Force Medical Service and the University.
