Tenor to return to alma mater to teach master class

During a recent visit home, Dean Janssens worked with Barbara Rondelli Perry, who gave some guidance on singing a musical piece in French.

UT vocal alumnus Dean Janssens will be on Main Campus for an opera master class Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. in the Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall.

The tenor resides in Florence, Italy, and sings with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

Janssens has performed in more than 70 operas. His roles have included Ernesto in “Don Pasquale,” Bardolfo in “Falstaff,” Goro in “Madama Butterfly,” Gastone in “La Traviata,” Roderigo in “Otello,” Borsa in “Rigoletto” and Gherardo in “Gianni Schicchi.”

In 1995, he received a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance from the University, where he studied with Barbara Rondelli Perry, UT professor of music. While pursuing a master’s degree at the University of New Mexico, Janssens was featured as Camille and Brioche in “The Merry Widow” and Remendado in “Carmen.”
