In preparation for the First-Generation College Student Celebration Wednesday, Nov. 6, TRIO Student Support Services is calling all faculty and staff who are the first in their families to graduate from college to come together for a photo opportunity.

One in three students at The University of Toledo is a first-generation college student, or a student whose parent(s) have not completed a bachelor’s degree. This means that they and their siblings are the first in their family to attend a four-year university to attain a bachelor’s degree.

“Bringing together the first-gen college students from our faculty and staff is a great way to show our students that there are people who have walked in their shoes, right here, succeeding professionally at The University of Toledo,” Robin Stone, director of TRIO Student Support Services, said. “This is our third group photo for our first-gens. Word is getting out and people are proud to be a part of this group. We want to encourage students and be a visible support network they can count on.”

If you would like to be included in the photo of first-generation college students who are now faculty and staff members, come to the steps of the Thompson Student Union Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 4 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the photo will be taken at the same place Thursday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m.
