Human Resources is accepting nominations for the second LEAD cohort, continuing The University of Toledo’s commitment to professional development and personal growth.

Launched in 2021, the LEAD program provides emerging campus leaders an opportunity to hone their skills through monthly courses taught by subject matter experts, career and leadership coaching, networking with campus leaders and completion of a yearlong project.

“They will hear from many different senior leaders and get insights into different aspects of higher education as well as in the development of their own individual career plans,” said Melissa Studer, director of training and organizational development. “And they will have the experience of working on strategic University projects.”

Susan Edinger, senior auditor at UToledo who participated in the LEAD cohort, said the LEAD program’s mentoring has been especially beneficial.

“My mentor is an astute listener who offers valuable feedback, assists with goal setting and provides insight to help me grow as a professional,” she said. “I truly believe our friendship will continue after the conclusion of the LEAD program.”

Melissa Oddo, program manager in In the Office of Student Success and Retention, added: “The LEAD Program has given me the opportunity to connect with colleagues across campus that I likely would have never had the opportunity to engage with otherwise. I am grateful for growing and maintaining a valuable relationship with my mentor, who I got connected with through the LEAD Program.”

Interested staff members should complete an application form expressing their interest. Additionally, deans, vice presidents and other senior leaders may recommend an employee by submitting a nomination form on his or her behalf. Forms and additional information are available at the LEAD Program webpage.

The nomination period is open through Friday, Sept. 30. Participants selected to the program will be notified by end of November. The LEAD program runs from January 2023 through December 2023.

In addition to the LEAD Program, The University of Toledo offers other professional development opportunities for employees including open workshops such as Emotional Intelligence, Change Management, Lean Six Sigma and many others. Additionally, the Training and OD team offer management and leadership training, including New Manager Training, Management Operations Workshops and the Leadership Development Series. UToledo also has partnered with LinkedIn Learning to provide more than 16,000 online training courses available to all staff and faculty.
