Interstates 75 and 475 are undergoing construction and upgrades that will last throughout the next year, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Construction on I-75/I-475 may cause difficulties for UT students, faculty and staff who travel on the expressways on a regular basis. Below is some information that will be useful to those who may need to find detours.

The I-75/I-475 interchange will be upgraded, with a new interchange on I-475 at ProMedica Parkway and widening of I-475 from Rushland Avenue to I-75. Construction began Sept. 13 and is slated to continue until fall 2013, with all work weather permitting.

There will be several restrictions throughout the project, including interstate, ramp and city streets.

Through 2012, the right lane in both directions of I-475 between Monroe Street and I-75 will be restricted.

There also might be additional lane restrictions overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on I-475 from Rushland Avenue to I-75 in both directions. The same is true for I-75 from Detroit Avenue to Berdan Avenue in both directions.

Through 2013, the ramps from Monroe Street to eastbound I-475, from North Cove Boulevard to westbound I-475, and from eastbound I-475 to Jeep Parkway, are closed. The ramps from westbound I-475 to Jackman Road and from Upton/Kelley Avenue to eastbound I-475 permanently are closed.

Westbound Central Avenue between Upton Avenue and Monroe Street is reduced to one lane through September. Giant Street between Upton Avenue and Bigelow Street is closed for sewer relocation through 2012.

Through 2013, three city streets continually will be affected. Upton Avenue between Georgia Avenue and Central Avenue and Central Avenue between Upton Avenue and Jackman Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Sherbrooke Road between Groveland Road and Marlow Road will be closed.
