A major addition to the University’s sexual harassment policy is posted online for review and comment by the campus community.

To see the revision, go to www.utoledo.edu/policies/draft_policies/index.html.

The major addition to UT’s policy that covers sexual harassment and other forms of harassment deals with romantic and/or sexual relationships between individuals in a supervisory, teaching, evaluation, advising, coaching or counseling relationship with students. Such relationships would be prohibited unless there is a feasible alternative arrangement.

Likewise, romantic and/or sexual relationships between supervisor and employee are prohibited unless there is a feasible alternative arrangement.

The draft states, “Even if the relationship is not prohibited pursuant to the above provisions, individuals in positions of power should be aware that romantic or sexual relationships with students or employees are fraught with danger for exploitation and pose a legal risk to both the individual and the institution.”

Comments can be made online through Friday, Oct. 15. Questions or comments also may be sent to policies@utoledo.edu.
