TRIO Student Support Services invites University of Toledo faculty and staff who were the first in their families to earn a college degree to join a group photo.
First-gen faculty and staff are asked to gather on the steps of Thompson Student Union on Monday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m. for the photo.
At UToledo, roughly one in three students is first-generation — meaning neither parent has completed a bachelor’s degree. Many of these Rockets are among the first in their families to pursue a four-year degree and set a new precedent for siblings who follow.
“Celebrating first-generation college students honors their resilience, determination and the legacy they are building for future generations,” said Angelica Johnson, director of TRIO Student Support Services. “Recognizing these students affirms their hard work and helps foster a sense of belonging within our academic community.”
This photo opportunity leads into the First-Generation Day Celebration on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Thompson Student Union Ingman Room.
