Students have been allowed to return to Crossings residence hall this afternoon a little more than an hour after UT Police Department evacuated the building due to a lithium bromide discharge in the basement of the facility.
The compound, commonly used in air conditioning systems, entered the air in the basement of The Crossings when contractors working at the site cut refrigeration lines in preparation for removal of two cooling units.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and worked with UT officials in venting the area. The leak was confined to the basement of the building.
